Under the Sri Kurumba Educational and Charitable Trust, Sobha has undertaken numerous socially relevant programs through its vital social development institutions established by Sobha. All the philanthropic initiatives are conducted by the trust totally free for the beneficiaries.
Sobha Academy is helping India grow from its grassroots by providing quality education to approx. 1200 students at no cost. The day school has classes from KG-12 and is largely focused on the poorest-of-the-poor girls. Sobha Academy provides free education, transportation, food, clothing, and healthcare. The academy houses 50 teachers and over 100 non-teaching staff. For every teacher, 22 students receive the attention and care to facilitate fruitful learning.
Sprawling over 27 acres of green estates in the heart of Kerala, this home for the elderly and aged is a place of warmth and affection. With a committed caretaking staff and adequate facilities like independent rooms, a community TV room, laundry, a multi-purpose hall, lush parks, a gymnasium, a library, and many more, it is a true haven of comfort and happiness for those in need in their advanced years.
Sobha Icon provides access to disadvantaged students from schools with limited resources to outperform and expand their knowledge. The vision is to empower the future icons of India. Currently, Sobha Shadow Icon Initiative is being developed by including regular parent-teacher meetings and tracking the progress of kids at Sobha Icon. Four Sobha Icons who graduated in 2021 were conferred with the Kerala Chief Minister’s Student Talent Award, along with a reward of Rs.1 lakh and a certificate of merit.
Mr. Menon’s focus has been to help young, disadvantaged women by providing them with shelter, food, education, and opportunities to work. Within the same vicinity of Sobha Hermitage and under the social rehabilitation scheme for young mothers, their safety and security are ensured without any incurred costs.
The program supports the expenses of 50 widowed mothers of the Kizhakkenchery Panchayat, including allowance, clothing, medical, and personal utilities. The educational costs of their children are also covered to provide them with future opportunities. This program seeks to empower young women and give them a chance to educate themselves and their kids to access better economic opportunities.
Sobha is committed to undertaking sustainable initiatives on a massive scale to reduce the carbon footprint. The CSR activities include large-scale rainwater harvesting, preserving 3000 varieties of flora and fauna, and efficient waste management. Paddy cultivation has been an integral part of supporting the ‘Zero Landless Kerala’ mission. Solar plants have been set up at Sobha Hermitage to encourage the use of clean energy.
Sobha Healthcare was established to make healthcare accessible to the underprivileged. Around 2500 families from Kizhakkencherry Panchayat, the Sobha Academy, and Sobha Hermitage have received free consultations, medical checkups, and treatment. The center houses experienced doctors and has modern facilities like an observation room, in-patient room, pharmacy, laboratory, patient’s waiting area, and a minor operation theater to cater to various health conditions of the residents.
Sobha has set up a charitable trust to organize social weddings without dowries and to help young couples whose families are unable to provide a dowry. The foundation also gives marriage counseling to these couples and has successfully completed 500 weddings to date.
At the Sobha Vocational Training Center, the less privileged gain access to training in various vocational fields such as carpentry, computers, and music. With paid apprenticeships and employment opportunities, they can begin their career in a vocation of their choice and earn a respectable living.
As part of empowering women, 100 orphan girls and 100 elderly women will be brought together in a unique housing program, wherein the two generations of girls and elderly women would share a mutually beneficial coexistence. This kind of integrated housing community gives the old destitute women a chance to live respectably and help each other as a family.
The Al Jalila Foundation supported by the Dubai Government undertakes medical education and research initiatives in the UAE. The foundation will oversee the development of the Hamdan Bin Rashid Cancer Charity Hospital, named in honor of the late Deputy Ruler of Dubai. Philanthropists across the UAE, including Mr. PNC Menon, have helped raise Dh220 million ($60m). This contribution stems from Mr. PNC Menon’s belief that the Al Jalila Foundation’s initiative is crucial to the UAE’s progress as a hub for medical innovation and the treatment of serious diseases.
This noble initiative was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to provide food aid to vulnerable communities in almost 50 countries. An initiative that stood out amongst many others was a personal donation of AED 1 million from the chairman of Sobha Realty, Mr. PNC Menon. Mr. PNC Menon, Founder and Chairman of Sobha Group, is a board member of the Rashid Center for People of Determination. Sobha Realty recently signed an MoU with the Al Rahma Association of Motherhood and Childhood in Muscat and pledged to donate OMR 9.6 million over the next decade to build over 300 homes for orphans and needy families in Oman. Sobha Realty, led by by the values of Mr. PNC Menon, donated AED 50 million to the '1 Billion Meals Endowment' campaign by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI). The campaign aims to provide food assistance to underprivileged individuals worldwide, especially vulnerable populations like children, refugees, and those affected by crises. This contribution aligns with the UAE's commitment to the UN's 2030 Sustainable Development Goals to eradicate global hunger.
